The other day I received a Whatsapp message from a fellow developer. What attracted me more than the message was his display picture (DP). Lo and Behold, I got the title of this blog.
EVOLUTION:
The history of Real Estate has evolved simultaneously with the evolution of mankind. From the Cave Man to the modern suited booted, not so Gentle Man, the Real Estate has kept pace through the wheel of revolution. In fact, the man has always been known by the Real Estate he occupied, either as a noun or as an adjective. The Cave Man earned his food by hunting till he moved to agriculture as his daily bread. Scientific proof tells us that this shift took place around 30,000 B.C and this transition also heralded the advent of most original form of investment - Real Estate Ownership.
SCRIPTURES:
The Holy Bible, Old and New Testament alike has as many as 22 references to Real Estate transactions. In fact Two of the Ten Commandments uphold the sanctity of owning property. "Thou Shall Not Steal" and "Thou Shall Not Covet" explicitly indicate the ownership of private property. The Ten Commandments are supposed to have been given to Moses around 20,000 B.C.
We find reference to Real Estate in The Holy Quran, where the WILL is mandated to inherit property. In fact, The Holy Quran has extensive chapters outlining the laws of inheritance. The present day requirement of witnesses while registering the property, is indeed mentioned in The Holy Quran.
The Upanishads, Vedas and various other Holy Scriptures have innumerable references to the transition from common use of land to private ownership of Real Estate. Most importantly, these Holy Scriptures highlight the divine significance of Real Estate by recognising it as sacred. It is strongly believed that bloodshed of innocent and violence on a piece of Real Estate carries the burden of sin.
The historical, spiritual, religious, and economical heritage of Real Estate proves that it is certainly the oldest and most original investment avenue in the history of mankind.
AURA:
The aura of Real Estate continues to dominate Anno Domini (AD) era as well. What could not be purchased, was invaded as result of great wars. The more the potential of the Real Estate, greater were the wars. Every Kingdom had the ultimate desire of owning maximum Real Estate.
East India Company was essentially a Real Estate company owning lands in India including Mumbai. And when you own Real Estate, the offshoots are plenty, generating additional regular income besides capital appreciation. Large swathes of Tea & Coffee estates in the hills were testimonials for the astute Real Estate sense of Britishers. Be it our Parliament House or President's Palace, Britishers were great Real Estate creators and investors.
KINGDOMS:
The Kings and Queens of India were equally shrewd in Real Estate development. Even after hundreds of years, we continue to admire the monuments they created which stand as glowing tribute to their interest in Real Estate.
TODAY'S BILLIONAIRES:
Finally, we come to the contemporary world. The easiest way to explain Real Estate and how it holds sway over modern world economy, would be to mention the number of billionaires in the world who owe their billions to Real Estate. Almost 40% of the world's billionaires are from Real Estate Industry. This speaks volumes for the Real Estate and it's sheer capacity to create wealth..
ECONOMY:
In my previous blog titled, "Real Estate's Revival is Economy's Survival", I have dwelt on the undeniable role of Real Estate in Economy. Be it Seven Wonders Of The World or Tallest Building In The World, be it Disney World or World's Largest Palace Complex, everything is Real Estate.
Real Estate still holds the same position, importance and significance which it has through the evolution and revolution of mankind over many thousands of years. Though the definition, meaning, grandeur, size and shape of Real Estate has gone through massive changes, it has survived through greatest of great wars. It has prospered in worst recessions the world has gone through. It has thrived among plagues and famines. Have no doubt, It will endure the onslaught of COVID-19 too. After all, it is the first and most original investment man has ever made and it has stood the test of time. The nature of Real Estate is such that it is not only available to enjoy now but also for the generations to come. Investment in Real Estate is the most sensible decision man has ever made in the history of mankind.
